The Hawthorns was founded by the Bull family in 1926. The School moved to Pendell Court in 1961 where it has since been situated in our beautiful Jacobean manor and 35 acre estate. It is within easy reach of local towns and villages, yet provides a haven from the rush of life in south-east England.
Evelyne and I moved into the school in 1992. I am an Old Hawthornian with a profound respect for the School’s traditions and a clear vision for its future. Evelyne, originating from Alsace, brings a lively international partnership and both of our children enjoyed growing up through the School. The Hawthorns seeks to provide a truly all round education, with balance and breadth in our boys’ and girls’ experiences, underpinned by academic excellence. We put emphasis on:
A cornerstone of our success is a high teacher:pupil ratio. This enables individual attention to be given in small classes or sets, so that the distinctive potential and personality of each child can be drawn out. We have fabulous grounds, offering a lovely seasonal variety, inspiring facilities and exciting resources which range from the latest ICT to the sheep and hens encountered in outdoor education!
The School actively fosters close and practical links with the community and we are committed to generously supporting a range of local, national and international charities.
We have a rolling ‘Development Plan’, entitled ‘Towards 2020 – Perfect Vision’, which helps the School to maintain a focused and well-resourced education and one relevant to the future. In choosing an independent school, you are making a very important investment in your child’s future, a future full of change, challenge and hope. Once you have read the enclosed, I hope that you will want to visit us and experience for yourself what we believe is a very special and rewarding place, quite unlike any other school. You will be given a warm and sincere welcome.
